LEVEL 3:

LEARNING ABOUT STANDARDS
IN SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING

WHY IS SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING?

Measuring sustainability is about mapping and standardized reporting

Sustainability reporting is a growing field for measuring sustainability practices at the organizational level and for mapping performances along the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the connected 169 Targets and 232 Indicators. In addition, more and more certifications are emerging with standardized measurements for environmental (planet), people (social), governance (good governance and institutional leadership), and economic wellness (prosperity) along other important pillar and priorities for sustainability like peace and human rights, labor rights and anti-human trafficking, women rights and inclusive leadership and governance. The Global Reporting Initiative, the gold standard in sustainability reporting pushes companies  and organizations to go beyond a greenwashing (marketing oriented) corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting and invite to engage in a standardized and industry comparable metrics of financial and non-financial reporting.

"A sustainability report is a report published by a company or organization about the economic, environmental and social impacts caused by its everyday activities. A sustainability report also presents the organization's values and governance model, and demonstrates the link between its strategy and its commitment to a sustainable global economy.” (Global Reporting Initiative).

MEASURING SUSTAINABILITY

An overview of the measurements behind the SDGs and of the main mechanisms for sustainability reporting by Dr. Marco Tavanti (09/2020).

What is Sustainability Capacity?

Sustainability is more than a buzzword

Sustainability is and should be more than a buzzword. To achieve a better and sustainable future we need to invest in sustainability education and capacity development for sustainability performance.  Knowing the fundamental principles and practices for a sustainable future can no longer be a field for experts and dedicated institutions.  For-profit companies, nonprofit-nongovernmental organizations, and governmental-intergovernmental  agencies must know that sustainability is about especially in relation to the commitment for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the common Agenda 2030.

SDG SERVICES for sustainable capacity development

SDG Services provides sustainability capacity development consultancies and trainings for integrated triple bottom line performances and global and corporate social  responsibility in line with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2015-2030). We base our approach on the notion of sustainable development as meeting the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own goals. Sustainability must be more than green-washing (for marketing and PR) and blue-washing (for being associated with the UN). It is about implementing an integrated triple bottom line in organizations equally concerned to perform for equitable societies (People), bearable environments  (Planet), viable economies (Prosperity). It is also about merging global citizenship mindset with social responsibility and systemic thinking.
